The Real Cost of Those Eggs pt.59

One of my favorite musical artists is New York's own Willie Nile.

He has written many under celebrated songs though his 50 years that i have known him. But these 2 songs tell the story of today’s times

             1. “It’s getting ugly out there” 2. “I can’t do crazy anymore

In the land of milk and honey?

Food poverty in America under a shutdown (such as a government shutdown or major economic disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic) intensifies the struggles already faced by many low-income families and individuals. A shutdown, especially a government shutdown, typically results in a freeze or reduction of federal programs, services, and support that are vital for vulnerable populations. In a land where both political parties claim they love the life of a child, the shit going on today, puts American families in the crosshairs. It can lead to immediate and long-lasting consequences for those already experiencing food insecurity.

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is one of the most critical resources for low-income Americans. During a shutdown, there may be delays in issuing benefits or even the suspension of new applications. If the shutdown continues for an extended period, many families could be left without crucial assistance. While some states have emergency reserves, not all are able to weather such a crisis.

School Meal Programs: Federal funding for programs like the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program may be delayed or reduced, affecting millions of children who rely on these meals for their daily nutrition

Food Banks: Nonprofit organizations like Feeding America and local food banks often rely on federal grants, state support, or public donations to distribute food. During a shutdown, federal funding could be delayed or cut, which would disrupt their ability to purchase and distribute food. Moreover, many food banks also rely on government programs like USDA food donations, which may be halted during a shutdown.

During a shutdown, there can be supply chain disruptions, including delays at ports and food processing plants, which may lead to higher food prices and lower availability of certain products. This hits low-income families the hardest, as they often rely on affordable food options. A shortage in food distribution channels can further exacerbate food insecurity. Trump's Big Beautiful bill cut $189 Billion out of the Snap program.

   Some History

The East Wing of the White House was originally constructed in 1902 and over time expanded (a second story was added in 1942) to house offices such as the First Lady’s staff, the White House social office, and other administrative functions. Traditionally it has not been a massive public-ballroom space like the main residence; large state dinners or major events often used the East Room or temporary tents on the South Lawn

90,000 sq ft of space, intended capacity up to ~650–900 guests. People.com+1 . Glass-walled design elements, modern amenities such as advanced HVAC systems. Designed to allow large-scale state dinners, receptions, and events that previously required tents or smaller space

Historic Preservation: Critics say such a large addition may overwhelm the historic character of the White House, especially given the size relative to the existing structure. Approval Process: Demolition began ahead of full review by agencies such as the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), due to a governmental shutdown creating gaps in oversight. Cost Overruns & Source of Funding: While claims are made of private funding, the rise in projected cost and transparency of donor lists have raised questions. The White House is both a residence and a national symbol; major structural changes to it evoke questions about legacy, preservation, and the image of executive power.

So please be careful, because it's getting ugly out there.

And when the news gets tough just sigh & sing,

                                       I can’t do crazy anymore
